Remove everything between you and play.
MythScript is a complete, original, free fantasy RPG built by subtraction. It keeps the familiar shape of the d20 game and strips everything that interrupts play. A new group can run it at full speed in one session, with enough tactical texture that the choices still matter twenty sessions later.
The rules aren't a book that got databased, they're a database that reads like a book. Every term means one thing, every rule links to everything it touches, and ambiguity is treated as a bug, not a style. The whole game lives here. No gated content, no paywalled lookups, and nothing to unlock.
What you get
Zero cost of entry
Free rules, one session to competence, ordinary dice, a printable sheet. The barrier is a table and a few friends.
Zero cost of rulings
Explicit triggers, durations, and stacking rules mean disputes resolve by reading one sentence — not by adjudicating intent.
Nonzero decisions
The 3-AP turn, Fortune and Misfortune, range bands, and graded results keep every roll a choice with a real trade-off.
What makes it different
- One progression currency. Skill Points drive both skills and their linked traits, with built-in respec on level-up. No modifier table lookup.
- Stakes instead of difficulty classes. The GM declares risk in plain language; the roll lands in a band; outcomes are graded — success, setback, and failure — rather than binary pass or fail.
- Fortune and Misfortune as a d6. Good luck adds a d6 to your roll; bad luck subtracts one. No rolling two d20s and watching your bruiser bounce off a door they should've flattened.
- A 3-AP action economy. Every turn you get three action points—spend them how you want. No memorizing which things are actions, bonus actions, or free actions. Three points, your call.
- Scant classes. No subclasses. Not because we ran out of ideas—because your character isn't a build. Three starting points, no archetype trees to min-max, no "correct" pick to look up before session one.
Familiar on purpose
d20 + modifiers, roll high. HP, hit dice, conditions, initiative, six-second turns. Class, species, background, feats, and spells as the anatomy of a character. Anyone who has played any edition of the world's most popular RPG already knows most of MythScript's vocabulary.
